We do not and will not share your personal information without your express consent.
CampusMatch and its member sites are run by CampusMatch Network, Inc., which is a fancy way of saying “a few current or recently graduated college kids, most of them from Wesleyan University.” We're still young and idealistic and try to stick it to The Man whenever possible, and we're certainly not about to give him your e-mail address.
Access to CampusMatch is restricted to students, alumni, faculty and staff at participating schools and requires a school e-mail address in order to register.
Like most websites, we automatically collect your IP address, browser information, and the page from which you came whenever you visit the site. We use this data to diagnose problems with the site, gather broad demographic data about our user base, improve your viewing experience, and complain about people still using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.
In order to provide our matching services, we ask you a series of deep, probing questions on all manner of personal things. All questions are optional, although your use of the site may be limited if you do not answer a sufficient percentage of the questions. Answers from the compatibility questionnaire are used by the compatibility engine and are not revealed directly to other users; however, please be aware that, due to the nature of the service, people may be able to infer the answers you have chosen, and you should not answer any question that you would be uncomfortable sharing with others. You can limit the individuals and groups that are able to view their compatibility with you by adjusting your privacy settings.
We also collect profile information such as major, location, screen name, interests, etc. Access to your profile is dependent on your privacy settings, and only users that meet the criteria you set can view the information you provide.
We may share user-provided information in a non-personally identifiable manner with advertisers or other third parties in order to provide demographic data on our userbase or display advertising for products or services that may be of interest to you. However, such information is used solely in aggregate, and we will never share any information that could be used to personally identify you without your express consent.
A cookie is a small text file stored by a website on a user's computer containing information about that user. Like most websites, we use a temporary session ID cookie to allow you to log into the site and maintain your “session.” This cookie is deleted once you log out or close your browser or, unless you select "Remember me on this computer" on the front page, after a period of inactivity. However, you are encouraged to log out of the site when you are away from your computer to prevent other people from accessing your account. We also use a single persistent cookie to store your username on your personal computer; your password is not saved, although your browser may store your password separately, depending on the settings you have chosen. We do not use cookies to track or collect private information from any user.
CampusMatch may contain links to other websites. You should be aware that these websites are outside of our control and may try to trick you, solicit your personal information or steal your girlfriend, and you are advised to read the privacy policy of any site you visit that collects personal data. This privacy statement applies solely to CampusMatch.com and CampusMatch member sites.
We use industry-standard methods to protect our site and the information you provide. Your account is password-protected, and passwords are stored in encrypted form in our database. Access to your information is limited to the members of our staff who need access to maintain the site and answer support requests. If you have any questions about the security of our website, please contact us.
We may work with members of your school community in order to customize the site and create content tailored to your school. Campus representatives do not have access to personal information beyond what is available to all other users.
Ads appearing on our member sites may be delivered to users by our Web advertising partners. Our Web advertising partners may set cookies. Doing this allows the ad network to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement. In this way, ad networks may compile information about where you, or others who are using your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which ads were clicked on. This information allows an ad network to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. We do not have access to or control of the cookies that may be placed by the third-party ad servers or ad networks. This privacy statement covers the use of cookies by CampusMatch and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.
If we change our privacy policy, we will post the changes on the site so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via e-mail.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or any other site practices, please contact us.
